Parents Teach Art (PTArt)
The Spanish modern artist Joan Miro is thought to be one of the most versatile masters of the 20th century. He was a prolific artist whose work spanned 7 decades and included painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles and lithographs. He is the focus for March’s PT Art. (Click here to download a powerpoint slideshow of the artist.)For a more detailed MS Word document which includes the project (8 MB),click here.
PTArt is a PTA-sponsored art appreciation and enrichment program - and one of the students' favorites. Every month, parent volunteers take a new project emphasizing a new artist or art form to all kindergarten through sixth grade classes. A different artist is featured in each lesson and volunteers work with children on a fun, age appropriate art project that relates to the artist/technique.
Forest Edge is one of about forty schools that participate in the program which is administered by the Greater Reston Arts Center for Education. Learn more about the GRACE Art program.
Materials, lesson information and training are supplied. It's easy, fun and you don't need any prior art knowledge!
